What are we doing here anyway? Are we going anywhere, doing anything, or are we just getting together for another weekly meeting? Vision helps us answer these questions. For some, the term “vision” can be foggy in it’s meaning at best. It has kind of a Yoda quality. However, vision is a very concrete and graspable concept that deals with sometimes-abstract things like the future and destination. Vision reminds us of what is to come and why we’ve traveled the road we’re on now. Vision gives direction and focus. vision answers the questions “Why are you coming to EDGE?”, “What do you want to see happen because of EDGE?”, and “What do you hope will happen within EDGE?”
Vision helps us live for something bigger.
Genesis 15:5-6 “Then He (God) took him (Abram) outside and said, “Look at the sky. Count the stars. Can you do it? Count your descendants! You’re going to have a big family, Abram!” And he believed! Believed GOD! God declared him “Set-Right-with-God.”
Vision motivates us to live big, not just settle for what’s easy.
Romans 4:18-21 “When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!” Abraham didn’t focus on his own impotence and say, “It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.” Nor did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up. He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said.
So, I’ve got VISION for next week. Now what?
Bringing VISION to EDGE is not as daunting as it may seem. If you can answer the 4 questions below, you are basically ready to bring VISION.
What has represented one of the four EDGE values in your life lately? Is there a movie clip, a part of a book, poetry, a symbol, or a story about something that happened to you?
How can you share this with the EDGE group in a clear way? Can you bring the clip, book, or whatever to present it to EDGE?
What is it exactly about what you have chosen that inspires or challenges you to pursue and reach out for the vision of your EDGE group?
How will you communicate this to the rest of the group?
